I’ve always had a horrible sweet tooth. I don’t know where it came from, but I was that kid that would stash sweet snacks in random hiding places in my room, and lock myself in a closet to eat them. That was a terrible habit to have.
I started seeing it in my kids too, so I had to nip that in the bud as soon as I could. I literally had to go therapy to figure out that it was emotional eating. I had to replace all processed snacks with fruit, but of course after having kids, we once again ended up with sweet snacks in the house.
What I had to do was get creative. Sometimes they were great for eating fruit, but sometimes they’d want something else. So I started looking up healthy snack recipes that I could make in higher quantities and that would keep for a bit.
I gathered a ton of information on the internet, and learned how to make energy balls, black bean brownies, air fried chips, cinnamon pretzel bites, chocolate granola balls, among quite a few other things. All I needed to do was get my Cuisinart food processor out, get the ingredients that I’d need, and start experimenting.
I figured they would eat whatever was readily available to them. If we didn’t have the sweet stuff, then they wouldn’t be able to get it. It made sense to me. I was hoping it would work for myself as well.
I was getting a good idea of what was working and what wasn’t. During my experimenting, a lot of things went to waste. It was a lot of trial and error, but we found a few things that everyone was really enjoying.
Once we got the point where everyone knew what they liked, I realized I was going to need some backup parts. I was chopping a lot of nuts, so I ordered some replacement blades from KitchenWorksInc, where you can get replacement Cuisinart-dfp-14 parts. While I was at it, I ordered another work bowl, so I could make a couple of things in one shot.
The kids like to get involved in finding new ideas, or tweaking different recipes to make them just a little better. It’s become a lot of fun for them, and they’ve gotten pretty creative too. Sometimes that doesn’t always work out in everyone’s favor.
It’s a really fun family activity now, and we spend a lot of quality time coming up with ideas. We like to make a game out of it. Sometimes we’ll make up some really strange ideas like broccoli and chocolate and my kids think it’s hilarious, and thankfully, no one actually wants those combos.
Aside from the homemade snacks, the kids want to be more involved in the meals that we make at home too. We’ve all curbed our sweet tooth, and we’re all snacking in a much healthier way now. I’m hoping that these habits stick with them for a lifetime. When they’re both older and live on their own, I plan to get them each a Cuisinart food processor to experiment with ideas of their own.
