My dad was always the one to cook in our family. My mom would once in a while, but she didn’t possess my dad’s talent or enthusiasm, and she was happy to let him do the job.
My dad had recently retired, so he spent a lot of his free time browsing the Internet for recipes that caught his attention. He was having a blast experimenting. Whatever made him happy made us happy, as long as no one was getting hurt. Luckily, these weren’t those kinds of experiments.
His birthday was just around the corner, and my brother and I were contemplating about what we could get him. We both agreed that it should be something cooking related since he was excelling at his hobby and needed a new challenge. I did a bit of research in gift guides for people who love to cook, and we decided we’d get him a Cuisinart food processor.
As though that was not enough of a gift on its own, we also decided to get some extra things to make it more versatile. One of the things we purchased was a Cuisinart DLC-8 4-piece Tritan Bowl Kit Part This would make it easier for him to switch between making different things without worrying about immediate cleanup and would allow for larger batches if need be.
He was thrilled to receive his birthday gift, and he assured us he’d get right to work on learning what he could make and compiling plenty of recipes for us to try. He would text us different links to get our opinion on them. It was cool to see him so excited about something.
Of course since my dad was experimenting, he needed someone to do the taste testing. We were the lucky ones. We’d plan a weekly family dinner, and my dad would serve up his new creations. Believe it or not, most of them were actually good. It was neat to see him really apply so much effort into something that he was enjoying.
These days my dad is always coming up with new things. He’s made a recipe book based on things that we all enjoyed. He even talks about trying to get it published some day. I guess anything is possible.
My brother and I definitely know we made the right choice in gifting our dad with his Cuisinart food processor. He’s got a great constructive hobby and we both get to reap the benefits and my dad was proud and able to maintain his confidence after retirement. It doesn’t get much better than that.
